DESCRIPTION:To – All Camp Squanto 2016 campers.  \nMeeting – There will be a signup night on Tuesday\, June 28th at the Locker.  First time campers and a parent will come at 6:30 pm.  All other scouts and a parent should come at 7:30 pm. At the signup meeting\, we will collect the forms and checks for camp. This is what you need to know:  \nActivities and Merit Badges – new scouts will participate in the Flight to Eagle program.  That is a program designed for new scouts.  First year scouts from all troops in camp get together each morning from 9:00 am to Noon to work on rank requirements\, earn a merit badge and have fun.  This is an excellent program that our new scouts have participated in for years.  Also\, New scouts will take an additional handicraft merit badge in the afternoon.  I will walk you through the details at the meeting.  \nOlder scouts will recognize the attached merit badge schedule.  There are some changes this year\, including the elimination of the 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm merit badge block and new merit badges to choose from.  The Troop will provide each of you with some suggestions for merit badge programs based on your advancement situation\, but you are free to choose your own schedule.  We generally suggest three badges as the right number to leave room for other activities.  \nIf anyone is interested in the Camp’s new equestrian program\, please contact me.  It will be conducted in association with a riding facility/farm in Plymouth for three hours daily.  There is an extra charge.  \nUnlike prior years\, you DO NOT need to print out the merit badge forms for the meeting.  Please print out the attached Worksheet and fill in the badges you wish to take.  \nMedical Forms – we need your medical form with an up-to-date Part C from your doctor’s office and a copy of both sides of your insurance card.  The importance of having those forms in order cannot be overstated – scouts without a complete form cannot stay at camp.  If a scout is bringing prescription or OTC medications with him\, we will discuss exactly how those need to be packaged.  If you do not have a Part C updated with a current annual checkup\, please contact your pediatrician as soon as possible to schedule a checkup prior to camp.  \nCost – for first year scouts\, the cost is $400  If you would like a Troop photo\, please add $12.  The cost to scouts who have been in the Troop for at least a year is $210 (plus $12 for a photo) in recognition of your work at the RTF.  \nWe are looking forward to another great week at camp and encourage all scout to attend if you are able.  Like all Troop 28 activities\, cost should not be a barrier to participation.  If the cost is an issue\, please contact me or the Troop Committee Chairman\, Marty Thomae\, privately to discuss making it work.

DESCRIPTION:On Saturday\, please arrive at the Hingham Ship Yard at 10:15 am (sharp).  We will return on Sunday morning\, arriving at the shipyard at 10:40 am..  The cost of the boat is $17 round trip.  Please bring a check payable to “Troop 28 Cohasset” or cash.  A check is better.  Apart from the cost of the ticket\, the trip costs will be paid by the troop.  Please pack a lunch.  There may be a snack bar\, but I do not know if it has opened for the season. \nSince all of the Troop’s gear has to be carried on and off the boat\, please pack your personal gear in a backpack or duffel that you can carry and leave a hand or two free for Troop gear.  I will transport the gear from the locker to the shipyard\, and scouts will need to carry it on and off.  All food should be brought in closed containers (i.e.\, not plastic Stop and Shop bags) and coolers. \nPatrols should be certain that they have packed all tents and cooking gear they will need.  Seriously\, it’s an island. \nWe need everyone present in order to buy boat tickets\, and the boat can and does sell out.  Do not be late..

DESCRIPTION:Each year every member of Troop 28 needs to have a swim test regardless of swimming ability–this is required for attending summer camp\, and needed for any water activities\, such as the canoe trips\, whitewater rafting trips\, etc.  We presently have two dates set up for swim tests– Tuesday\, June 7th\, starting at 2:30PM\, and Wednesday\, June 8th\, starting at 3:30PM\, both at the Rosens’ pool.  We will have a certified BSA lifeguard to administer the swim tests.   \n The actual swim test only takes a few minutes–each scout swims a few laps and treads water for a minute.  Please email Margie Hillman to let her know which day your scout will be coming or have them sign up at tomorrow night’s meeting.

DESCRIPTION:At the Camporee\, our troop will be tenting and cooking in our own area at Camp Buxton.  During the day on Saturday\, there will be a competition between troops themed around basic scouting skills.  Our scouts\, grouped by patrols\, will participate in activities that include a Pioneering (including building a catapult)\, a First Aid relay\, trail signs and signals\, some sort of “river crossing” involving barrels and a piece of plywood.  It should be fun. \nALL scouts should download the outline of the skills.  The Troop will be going over these skills at the next three meetings\, along with planning for the campout and general advancement.

SUMMARY:Troop Meeting - Paul Pratt Library
DESCRIPTION:The meeting this Thursday evening will include a presentation about the 2017 National Jamboree by a volunteer from the Council.  Scouts and parents are invited to attend and to learn more about this event.  The Jamboree is a peak scouting activity that is only held every four years.  All scouts in presently in the Troop are eligible to attend provided that they attain First Class rank by next July\, which is well within every scout’s reach. \nIn order to accommodate scouts and adults\, the meeting will be held at the new Recreation Department space under the Paul Pratt library.  The entrance is in the back of the building\, opposite the playground. \nIn addition to the Jamboree presentation\, there will be signups and planning relating to the Road Race (April 3); the Wheelwright Campout (April 9-10) and the Camporee (May 13-15).
